Chapter 128: The Suspicious Marriage. [132]
Summary
Li Su is shocked and speechless upon learning of his engagement to the Xu family's daughter. He had agreed to the betrothal before going to war but didn't expect to receive a title and become a higher-ranking official. His father, Li Dao Zheng, wants him to marry the merchant's daughter to secure their family's status, but Li Su is reluctant and feels his life is being decided without his input. The engagement was settled after the Xu family took the initiative to ask for Li Su's hand in marriage, despite his reputation for frequenting brothels without paying. Li Su senses that something is suspicious and recalls meeting the old man of the Xu family, who had a strange expression. Li Su tries to hide his concerns from Dong Yang, a princess who is waiting for him by the riverside. However, she notices that something is wrong and teases him about his greed for wealth. Li Su feels envious of Dong Yang's elegant and refined demeanor, which is detached from the world. The chapter ends with Li Su trying to navigate his complicated situation and figure out what to do about his engagement.Full content
