Summary

Mei Lun visits the Mechanical Association, where four mechanics show fleeting interest in a black beetle he possesses. After wiping their memories of the beetle, he leaves feeling somewhat disappointed. Over the next two days, he visits ten households seeking information, but all leads prove fruitless. His final target is the Wood Puppet Manor, owned by the granddaughter of the late renowned Wood Puppet Magician, Nuo Mi Klaus. The manor, once vibrant, is now desolate due to its current owner's reluctance to open it to visitors. Mei Lun arrives at the manor and encounters two of Nuo Mi's disciples, David and Johnny, who express skepticism about his visit. Despite their warnings, Mei Lun insists on waiting to see Miss Vera, the owner. He is escorted to a guest room by a mysterious butler, observing the lack of other servants and feeling a sense of unease about the manor's atmosphere.
