Summary

Zhang Xuan returns to his hometown in Beihai County, Qingzhou, after half a year. He is accompanied by Noble Consort Pei Zhi Zhi and others. They stop at a tea house, where Zhang Xuan meets the owner, Wang, and his son, Wang Zan, who has served in the army and now farms the land. Zhang Xuan inquires about the people's conditions and learns that the village has transformed significantly since his last visit. The villagers are living prosperously, with many households raising livestock and farming. Zhang Xuan meets with the elders of the village, who express their gratitude for his policies, which have brought wealth to the area. They share their incomes, which are comparable to those of high-ranking officials in Zhongdu. Zhang Xuan clarifies that the tax exemption on livestock sales will end after ten years, but the villagers are grateful for the opportunity to prosper.
