Summary

Chen Wanjun, unable to sleep, gazes at the stars and feels melancholy. Xu Feng, a mysterious man in black, appears and teases her about her plan to sneak into the Hall of Nurtured Hearts. Despite her suspicions, he offers to help her with her troubles, particularly regarding an anonymous letter. Xu Feng suggests placing a phoenix hairpin in Shu Fei's room to alert the Empress if Shu Fei allies with other concubines. Chen Wanjun reflects on Xu Feng's familiarity and wonders about his identity, even speculating he could be the Emperor, which frightens her. Troubled by these thoughts, she eventually falls asleep after much tossing and turning.
