Summary
Wang Yuan Ji's actions led to the rapid spread of alarming news in the Tang military camp: Zhou Jun had taken Hexi, the Tang army had retreated from Bashu, and a rebellion by Guanzhong aristocrats was underway, threatening Chang'an. Soldiers were restless, debating the news, while Wang Jun Kuo, troubled and unable to sleep, contemplated his loyalty and the political machinations around him. He learned of the rumors circulating among the troops and felt compelled to report to his commander, Qu Tutong. In the command tent, tensions rose as Qu Tutong expressed his frustration over the unverified news, while Wang Jun Kuo suggested a strategy to address the soldiers' fears. Ultimately, they agreed to present the situation as a rumor to maintain morale, despite the grim reality that the Tang Dynasty faced a significant crisis. Wang Jun Kuo left the tent resolved to defend the city, seeing it as his last opportunity.Full content
