Summary
In a state of panic, the Dunhuang rebels surrendered to the Zhou cavalry, who were bound by strict regulations against killing surrendering enemies. Despite his desire for vengeance, Qin Yong ordered a halt to the attack. As the majority of rebels surrendered, he sought the elusive Shatuo people, only to learn they had fled. Angered, he pursued them and discovered a battlefield littered with Shatuo corpses, confirming their refusal to surrender. Qin Yong successfully captured Zhu Xie Han, fulfilling his mission. The next day, he returned to Dunhuang City with prisoners, including Zhu Xie Han, and reported to General Li Jing, who planned to advance to Yiwuzhou. Yiwuzhou, sparsely populated and previously governed by the Sui Dynasty, had become marginalized after the withdrawal of troops. The Shatuo people migrated there, leading to a fragile coexistence with the local government.
