Chapter 1094: The Intention of the Drunken Weng. [1098]

Summary

A logistics convoy of three thousand ox carts, guarded by over a thousand Tang soldiers, was transporting grain to support the Tang army's assault on Luyang Pass. The journey faced challenges due to forced requisitions and widespread discontent among the populace. Meanwhile, Guo Shi Heng led an ambush against the convoy, believing it to be lightly guarded. However, the convoy was a trap, concealing fifteen thousand Tang soldiers. As Guo Shi Heng's forces attacked, they were met with a fierce counterattack, leading to heavy casualties and the death of Guo Shi Heng at the hands of his own deputy, Tian Zan. The remaining troops retreated, with Tian Zan successfully escaping to join the Sui army under Commander Zhang Xuan. After reporting the ambush's outcome, Tian Zan chose to enter politics to fulfill his father's dying wish, receiving the title of Marquess of Biyang County and the governorship of Nanyang County. Zhang Xuan encouraged him to serve the people and follow the path of honesty in governance.
