Chapter 105: Lord Xiong Tuo of Yang City. [104]
Summary
On October 23, during the 16th year of Hong De, the State of Chu's 60,000-strong vanguard army, led by Lord Pingyu, suffered total defeat at Yan Ling. A few hundred survivors reached Shang Cai, a war-torn border area. Lord Xiong Tuo, upon learning of the defeat, was shocked and anxious about his cousin Pingyu's fate. Despite the Chu army's recent victories over Wei cities, they faced harassment from Wei cavalry, which employed hit-and-run tactics, inflicting heavy casualties on Chu forces. Lord Xiong Tuo regretted not having a cavalry unit, as Chu's military relied on conscripted infantry, viewing human life as expendable. The situation was dire, with supply convoys being attacked and morale dwindling.Full content
