Summary

In the deep of night, Li Jian Cheng is summoned by his father, the emperor, who is distressed over significant military losses, including the surrender of Duan De Cao to the Northern Sui and the death of Cheng Duo in battle. Li Jian Cheng learns that his father wants him to take symbolic responsibility for the loss of Diao Yin County by submitting a letter of self-reproach and facing a fine on his salary. Although uncomfortable with this arrangement, he agrees to support his father. The emperor also decides to dismiss Liu Wenjing and allows Li Jian Cheng to recommend a successor. Tensions rise as Li Yuan announces a transfer of military authority to his younger son, Li Yuan Ji, which leaves Li Shi Min feeling pressured. The chapter ends with Li Yuan insisting that Li Shi Min lead the army to Long You the next day.
