Summary
Tens of thousands of Sui troops camped by the Yellow River, planning to cross but initially lacking boats. Zhang Chang Xun, observing from the opposite bank, underestimated the Sui army's capabilities. Despite doubts about their strategy, he was soon shocked to learn that over ten thousand Sui troops had crossed the river and reached Jiuyuan County. However, upon reaching Jiuyuan County, Zhang discovered his son’s forces had failed to defend the town against a night assault by the Sui army. With the situation dire and supplies at risk, Zhang decided to retreat to Yongfeng County for reinforcements. Meanwhile, Li Jing's Sui army secured Jiuyuan County and its vital granaries, receiving news of additional cavalry support on the way.Full content
