Chapter 1002: The War of Crossing the Yellow (Part 1). [1006]

Summary

The chapter describes the Central River Plain, where the Yellow River splits into two branches, creating the He Tao Plain, a fertile area that thrived during the Han Dynasty but fell into decline during chaotic times. Under the Northern Zhou and Emperor Wen of Sui, the population was relocated to cultivate the land, leading to a military presence. Zhang Wen Xun, the last Fengzhou General, surrendered to the Turks to protect the people but later returned to the Tang Dynasty's allegiance. As the Turkic Khan advanced, Zhang faced challenges with the Sui army's approach. He devised a plan to hold Jiu Yuan County while monitoring the Sui army's slow progress. Meanwhile, Li Jing, the Sui commander, discussed crossing the Yellow River with his generals, ultimately deciding to send cavalry to seize boats at Yongfeng Town. Zhang, aware of the Sui cavalry's approach, anticipated their strategy and prepared for the impending confrontation.
