The Heroic Journey Across the World.

Chapter 10: The Child of the National Swindler. [47]

Summary

Hao Qi and Zhang Heng arrive in the capital of the Hundred Herbs Kingdom at night. Zhang Heng informs Hao Qi that entry to the medical university requires identification. Hao Qi takes Zhang Heng to a renowned "noble restaurant," famous for its medicinal cuisine but with high prices. Unfazed by the cost, Hao Qi orders a variety of dishes. During the meal, Hao Qi expresses gratitude to Zhang Heng for his help and insists they become friends, despite Zhang Heng's hesitations about his reputation due to his father's past. As they dine, Zhang Heng overhears derogatory remarks about his father, which embarrasses him, leading him to leave abruptly. Hao Qi, undeterred, continues to enjoy the meal before heading to the martial arts group for registration and then to the national library, where he researches the history of Zhang Heng's family. He learns about Zhang Heng’s father, Zhang Yu Sheng, who falsely claimed to cultivate a rare herb, leading to a scandal that resulted in his suicide and left Zhang Heng an orphan. Hao Qi reflects on the cruelty of human nature and the challenges Zhang Heng has faced, realizing the depth of his struggles over the past twenty years.
