Summary

In Hejian, a scholar discovers a fox living in a mound of wheat straw used as firewood. The fox invites the elderly master for drinks inside the mound, revealing a splendid hall with fragrant tea and wine, but the scene vanishes upon exiting. The master, who mysteriously leaves at night, eventually takes the scholar to a lively tavern in a distant city. There, the scholar is intrigued by a man in red robes and reflects on his own character, realizing he must strive for uprightness. This thought causes him to fall from the rafters, leading to a misunderstanding with the tavern patrons, who later verify his story and reward him.
