Summary

In a photograph taken on November 12, 1855, by He Er Ku Pu, Laurence E Li Fan, dressed sharply in a black top hat and long coat, was among eleven individuals exiting the Central Statistics Bureau. He often visited the bureau, and on this occasion, opened an umbrella despite the unclear weather. Inside, he awaited Dr. Mekgineer, who noted recent social upheavals affecting patients. They discussed a case of a steam carriage accident leading to symptoms of latent hysteria. Mekgineer also criticized Boke Lin Tong, an engineer claiming to solve cholera issues through water pump adjustments. E Li Fan reflected on the past Luddite movements, now seemingly defunct, while tensions remained in society, hinting at ongoing struggles and instability.
