Summary

The story features a magpie that becomes the companion of Wang Fen Bin, who shares his experiences from his hometown where birds were taught to speak. In dire circumstances, the magpie suggests selling it for a fair price to ease the man's troubles. Ultimately, after some hesitation, the man agrees, and Wang purchases the bird for ten gold pieces. They enjoy a meal together, but after a refreshing bath, the bird suddenly flies away, leaving Wang and his attendants in despair. The man, however, is later seen with the bird in Xi'an, and this tale prompts reflections on sharing it with other stories.
