Summary

As summer ended, the Xiongnu tribe prepared to migrate south from their home at Hang Ai Shan, where they thrived in a basin surrounded by mountains. The tribe's core had adapted to harsh climates, migrating seasonally for warmth and resources. The Left Sage King Yu Dan learned of a victorious campaign against the Da Wan nation, bringing wealth and slaves. Under the protection of Huyan Dantu, Yu Dan's camp of 50,000 migrated southward, crossing a desert to reach Juyan Lake, where they found fertile land. Despite some tribes turning to primitive farming, the Xiongnu still relied on Han imports for food. The spoils of war included thousands of captured people, but a recent treaty forced the return of Han captives, causing frustration among the Xiongnu.
