Chapter 96: Zhao Hu. [104]

Summary

As the sun set, Liu De received Zhao Hu, the grandson of Southern Yue's King Zhao Tuo, who sought an audience. Southern Yue, established during the Qin's collapse, had a complex relationship with the Han dynasty. After Zhao Tuo's submission to the Han Emperor, Southern Yue became a vassal state. Despite moments of independence, such as Zhao Tuo declaring himself emperor, the kingdom ultimately acknowledged Han supremacy. Zhao Hu, educated in Chang'an, expressed satisfaction with his life there but was summoned home due to his grandfather's declining health. His visit aimed to strengthen ties with Liu De for future relations.
