Summary

As February ended, the grasslands began to thaw, and the Bayegu Ancient Julu tribe, now the largest among the Bayegu Nine Tribes after merging with smaller tribes, faced a new challenge. Following the death of their great chieftain, Cha Mu, Tulu was elected as his successor and established a trade agreement with the Northern Sui, significantly boosting the tribe's military strength. However, Tulu decided to send 5,000 troops to the Turkic royal court, causing concern for his son, Tongtai. Tulu explained the necessity of adhering to the Turkic khan's authority, while Tongtai worried about the implications for their alliance with Zhang Xuan. Urgent news arrived about a 50,000-strong Turkic army advancing southeast, prompting Tulu to prepare for defense and migrate the tribe north to avoid conflict. Meanwhile, the Northern Sui mobilized over 400,000 troops in anticipation of the Turkic advance. A messenger from Tulu reached the Northern Sui's Tiger Valley Pass, warning of the approaching Turkic forces, which were expected to arrive within two days.
