Summary

The Zhang Family hosted a grand banquet with over a thousand guests, including the magistrate of Ning Min Xian. Zhao Yuan Wai, a distressed grain merchant, sought help from Zhang Chao to sell his failing business, Ri Sheng Hao. He had borrowed 3,000 guan at an 8% monthly compound interest rate to hoard grain, anticipating a price surge. However, the grain market collapsed, leaving him unable to sell his nearly 10,000 stones of grain, which had drastically lost value. Despite his pleas, Zhang Chao viewed Zhao's predicament with disdain, recognizing his greed as the root of his financial troubles.
