Chapter 922: No Return (Part 3). [1020]
Summary
In the first year of Wu Zhen Xing, the regions around Taihu Lake suffered from relentless warfare, leading to over a million Han deaths and widespread devastation. The Jurchens and Wu Dynasty army repeatedly clashed, leaving cities in ruins and creating a multitude of refugees who turned to banditry for survival. Amidst this chaos, He Wen, a former scholar-warrior, struggled with despair and hunger, witnessing the horrors of cannibalism and the loss of his family. He recalled the cold indifference of Ning Yi, who believed that some must die for the greater good. Despite his suffering, He Wen rallied a group of refugees, claiming to be a soldier of the Chinese army, and led them to safety. He raised the black flag, symbolizing hope amidst despair, and organized the refugees into a fighting force against the Jin soldiers. As spring arrived, He Wen's leadership brought some relief, but the challenges remained, highlighting the inadequacy of efforts to restore peace in the war-torn land.Full content
