Summary

Thick clouds and heavy snow envelop Xiting County as Pei Zi Yun arrives to report an assassination. After alerting the county magistrate, they discover over 20 corpses, instilling fear among the officials. Pei Zi Yun, a top scholar, is invited to stay and share a meal, where he recites a poignant poem that evokes the chilling atmosphere. Later, he uncovers a tracking talisman hidden in his belongings, realizing he is being targeted by someone close. Determined to retaliate, he plans to stay for three days, preparing a surprise for his pursuers. He departs with gifts from the magistrate, heading towards a dilapidated temple, which he finds devoid of deities, allowing him to strategize without concern.
