Chapter 887: First Courtesy, Then Arms. [891]
Summary
In the Martial Virtue Hall of the Taiji Palace, Li Yuan and his chancellors discussed a recent attack in Xiyang County that resulted in significant losses for the Tang Dynasty, including 800,000 jin of crude copper. Li Yuan ordered his son, Li Shimin, to lead troops to investigate. Li Shimin identified the assailants as the Fenglei Army from the Sui, and the chancellors debated the implications for their security and currency policy. Chen Shuda proposed seizing Xiyang County to secure the southern passage, while Li Shimin suggested negotiating first. Ultimately, they agreed to send an envoy to Wang Shi Chong, who was silent on the matter in Luo Yang. Wang Shi Chong’s aides discussed the incident, shifting blame onto the Tang army for their reckless docking. Despite recovering some copper, Wang Shi Chong remained cautious about the ownership of Xiyang County, deciding to wait for the Tang envoy's arrival to address the situation.Full content
