Summary

In the brief interlude before the war, Ning Yi reflects on his child with his wife, while the southwest prepares for conflict. The first skirmishes at Huang Ming Xian's mountain pass result in heavy casualties for the Nü Zhen troops, despite attempts to minimize losses. The elite Han army soldiers face overwhelming odds during siege warfare, struggling against the defending Hua Xia Jun soldiers. As the battle continues, morale remains high for the Hua Xia Jun, who methodically repel the attackers. By the end of November, Zhou Pei leads her fleet into battle against Hu Sun Ming's forces, resulting in a mutiny and the collapse of the Taihu fleet. Meanwhile, Jun Wu, aided by Yue Fei and Han Shi Zhong, escapes Jiangning, recapturing Suzhou and dealing with treasonous officials. He Wen, a former scholar-warrior, returns home only to be imprisoned again due to his connections with the Hua Xia Jun, as local officials exploit his family's wealth.
