Summary

Ning Ji, dressed in a yellow military uniform, reflects on his experiences as he enters Zizhou Prefecture with the Huaxia army. At fourteen, he has witnessed significant changes and violence, including multiple assassination attempts and his own involvement in killings. The complexity of the world around him contrasts sharply with his earlier, simpler life. As the Huaxia army advances into the Chengdu Plain, tensions rise with the impending conflict against the Jurchens. Zizhou, a key location, becomes a focal point of negotiations and eventual bloodless takeover by the Huaxia army. Ning Ji settles in a clinic and is visited by Min Chu Yi, his brother's fiancée, who invites him to dinner with his brother, Ning Xi, who is now heavily involved in military planning.
