Chapter 865: The Fire Burns at Hangu Pass, Madness Unleashed. [865]

Summary

At the Pass of Hangu, the Han army, led by Da Yi Wan, successfully breached the defenses. Sima Yi commanded the Japanese army to hold the line, but they struggled against the fierce Han soldiers. In a pivotal encounter, Xu Huang defeated Shen Wu, showcasing his prowess and rallying the Han troops. As the battle raged, Yue Du realized the dire situation and sought Sima Yi, who planned to set fire to the Pass to slow the Han advance. Despite her pleas for her clansmen, Sima Yi remained ruthless, prioritizing strategy over compassion. The Han army, under Xu Huang's leadership, celebrated their victory, while Yue Du became a captive. Zuo Ci intervened, offering a chance for Yue Du to save her clansmen by persuading them to surrender. As the fire raged, Zuo Ci summoned rain to extinguish it, but initially, the flames only intensified. Eventually, with Zuo Ci's help, the rain began to douse the fire, much to the Han generals' relief. However, Sima Yi was furious to learn that his plans were thwarted as Cao Zi Dan had been defeated and retreated, leaving him in a precarious position.
