Chapter 856: On the Edge of Surrender. [860]

Summary

Zhang Xuan leads 40,000 troops towards Pencheng County, expecting an ambush from the Chu army but finds none. Military advisor Ling Jing suggests persuading Lin Zheng Tai, the new lord of Pencheng, to surrender due to the chaos following his father's death. Lin Zheng Tai, indecisive and focused on reading, is approached by Ling Jing, who informs him of the Sui army's victory over the Chu navy and offers terms for surrender to avoid further bloodshed. Lin Zheng Tai struggles with the decision, fearing ridicule for surrendering so soon after becoming lord, but is pressured by his soldiers who plead for their safety. As tensions rise, some soldiers begin to surrender without his consent, prompting Lin Zheng Tai to reconsider his stance.
