Chapter 849: Hidden Dangers in Bianliang. [854]
Summary
Zong Ze expresses frustration over Du Chong's refusal to provide food assistance to the Hebei volunteer army, which led to a disastrous defeat against the Jin soldiers. Li Yan Qing suggests that the volunteers need to be better controlled and integrated into the regular army for effective resistance. They discuss the need for a defensive strategy and the long-term effort required to reclaim Hebei. Yue Fei, now a deputy governor, shares concerns about Du Chong's negative attitude towards the volunteers and his avoidance of Li Yan Qing. Upon returning to Bianliang, Li Yan Qing finds the city in a state of decay but is welcomed by the people. He learns that Du Chong is absent due to his duties and contemplates writing to the emperor for Du Chong's reassignment while gathering evidence against him. Li Yan Qing departs Bianliang with troops, feeling the weight of responsibility as he heads westward to meet with additional forces.Full content
