Chapter 84: The Pan-Fried Buns [84]

Summary

Lord Zhuzi is skeptical about Shen Jiao's claim that pepper can kill insects but decides to try it after Liu Da encourages him. Liu Da offers to help with Zhuzi's lamb while he prepares to test the method at home. Shen Jiao and Ma Xing Hua visit various stalls, purchasing grains and discussing education, with Ma Xing Hua admiring Shen Jiao's knowledge. They encounter a stall selling steamed buns, a rare Jiangnan delicacy that Shen Jiao loves. The vendor, a middle-aged woman with a unique elegance despite her simple appearance, sells the buns at a higher price, deterring many customers. However, Shen Jiao is drawn to the aroma and buys ten buns, noticing the vendor's well-cared-for hands, hinting at her different background from local farmers. Shen Jiao refrains from asking more, focusing on her own situation.
