Chapter 824: Political Exchange. [827]
Summary
Emperor Wang Shi Chong of the Zheng Kingdom received the Tang envoy Wu Shi Xuan, who presented a letter recognizing Zheng. They discussed land exchange, with Wang Shi Chong conflicted about giving up Xiangyang Commandery. His brother, Chancellor Wang Shi Yun, advised that the exchange would relieve pressure from the Tang army and help maintain a balance between the Sui and Tang. Ultimately, Wang Shi Chong agreed to the land exchange, trading Xiangyang for land west of Xiaoguan, allowing the Tang army to establish a strong presence in the region. Meanwhile, Meng Hai Gong declared himself emperor of the Wu Kingdom, appointed officials, and sought an alliance with Lin Shi Hong against the Sui army. As spring approached, a young peddler made his way to a tea stall, signaling a shift in the narrative.Full content
