Chapter 816: The New Encounter [816]

Summary

Zhao Shu leaves the Empress's palace feeling relieved, realizing the complexities of familial love within the ruthless imperial family. He reflects on the burdens of power and the limited affection an emperor can enjoy. The next day, Wang Ning An is appointed Grand Tutor and Right Minister, replacing Wang An Shi as Second Minister, much to the joy of the ailing Prime Minister Ou Yang Xiu. Meanwhile, Jia Chang Chao, who hoped to rise to Prime Minister, feels despair upon hearing the news of Wang Ning An's promotion. Just as he prepares to leave, he receives a surprising decree making him Grand Preceptor, a nominal position that still keeps him in power. Amidst this, other old ministers also receive similar titles, indicating Zhao Zhen's cautious approach to governance. The Cheng brothers are bewildered by Wang Ning An's rise, realizing their efforts to undermine him have backfired, as public opinion favors Wang Ning An's capabilities. Wang Ning An, aware of the expectations placed upon him, prepares to face the challenges ahead, while his supporters express confidence in his leadership.
