Chapter 81: Mount Tai and Tai Water. [82]
Summary
Shi Lei visits his in-laws, Li Jing Yan and Zhang Fu Ren, at the Prime Minister's residence, bringing vegetarian pastries. During the visit, they discuss the Enyin's student quota, which Shi Lei is determined to keep for his family. However, Li Jing Yan suggests that it may not be easily preserved, as his mother-in-law insists it should be saved for their grandson. Li emphasizes that the honorary student status is more of a stepping stone for future officials, and questions the abilities of Shi Lei's uncles to succeed in the Imperial Examination System. Despite his reservations, Shi Lei remains firm in his stance against giving the quota to his uncles.Full content
