Chapter 8: The Child Who Picks Radishes. [7]
Summary
Mi Xiao Jing observes the bustling front yard of the village chief's house, where tenants pay rent in grains, with the tyrannical Luo family standing out for their large tribute of rice and pickled vegetables. Despite their power in the village, they respect the masters of the Xi Yan Gate. However, chaos ensues when a frail child is kicked by his father, prompting Mi Xiao Jing to intervene. The elder of the Luo family acknowledges the situation, but Mi Xiao Jing is disturbed by the child's injuries and pleas to avoid going home. The chapter ends with Mi Xiao Jing comforting the child, highlighting the stark contrast between the family's status and their treatment of him.Full content
