Summary

The chapter describes the dire situation in the royal city as the Jin army breaches the outer defenses. Wang Dao Qi, a commander of the Imperial Guards, contemplates surrendering to the Jin to secure his own position rather than becoming a slave to a fallen state. After sending a secret letter to Wanyan Xie Ye, he is called to greet citizens who bring gifts for the troops. During this event, an assassin shoots Wang Dao Qi with a poisoned arrow. Although the arrow does not penetrate deeply, it is deadly. Gao Jian Gong, seeking to eliminate Wang Dao Qi, kills him by driving the arrow deeper into his skull. He then instructs the military doctor to pretend to save Wang Dao Qi while preparing to gather the troops for a show of strength.
