Summary

Zhang Chao is managing the financial records of the Zhang Family, as the accounting office is not yet established. He faces challenges due to the illiteracy of his household staff and the high cost of paper and ledgers in the Tang era. After struggling to find help, he recruits Cheng Chumo as his assistant, teaching him basic accounting methods. Zhang Chao creates his own ledgers from expensive scrolls and paper, employing the maids for binding. He introduces double-entry bookkeeping to Cheng Chumo, emphasizing the importance of balanced accounts. Meanwhile, construction of a new cave dwelling progresses under the skilled supervision of Ke Da Lang.
