Summary

In Hejian Prefecture, harsh taxes and levies increased, leading to widespread suffering among villagers. After years of natural disasters, a brief period of peace allowed for a good harvest, but the burden of taxes remained heavy. Wang Lao Shi, a villager, confronted officials about the unbearable tax demands, which led to a collective decision among villagers to voice their grievances to higher authorities. Their protests resulted in the arrest and execution of corrupt officials, including Governor Wang Man Guang. However, the new administration imposed even harsher taxes, and the villagers faced further oppression as the Jurchen army prepared for war against the Wu Dynasty. Meanwhile, the Wu Dynasty's forces, led by Wang Shan Yue, launched a surprise attack on Daming Prefecture, marking the beginning of a fierce conflict.
