Summary

In this chapter, the Jurchen cavalry decimates the Song army, killing nearly 80,000 soldiers and leaving a gruesome scene of carnage. Sun Fu, one of the few survivors, returns to the capital in despair. News of the defeat causes chaos in the court, leading to the resignation of military leaders and a power shift towards the peace faction, which advocates for negotiation with the Jurchen. Geng Nan Zhong reveals the Jurchen's demands, including the surrender of Li Yan Qing, to prevent further slaughter. A search for Li Yan Qing begins, but he is missing. Emperor Zhao Huan, overwhelmed by the crisis, ultimately agrees to negotiate with the Jurchen, willing to sacrifice Li Yan Qing for the safety of the dynasty.
