Chapter 771: Surprise Attack on Hedong (Part 2). [774]

Summary

He Pan Yi, a general, meets with a merchant named Yang who wants to transport a batch of goods, specifically pig iron, to Chang'an. He Pan Yi agrees to help, charging 5 taels of gold for each large cart, and provides Yang with an exemption flag. Yang has 10 large carts, each with 5 guards, and pays He Pan Yi 50 taels of gold. Later, the caravan approaches the Pu Jin Pass, and He Pan Yi becomes suspicious of the contents of the wooden boxes, thinking they might contain gold or silver. He orders the boxes to be opened, but the leader of the caravan, Wang Xuan Jing, attacks and kills He Pan Yi. The caravan's guards and a group of disguised soldiers then attack the soldiers inside the city, taking control of the city walls and gates. Meanwhile, Wei Chi Gong leads 3,000 soldiers out of the woods, preparing to attack the Pu Jin Pass.
