Chapter 770: The Emperor's Scheme [770]
Summary
In this chapter, Zhao Shu is anxious about the political situation as Bao Zheng reports that a crowd is demanding accountability for stock market manipulations. The old emperor, Zhao Zhen, feigns ignorance and engages in a heartfelt conversation with Bao Zheng, who expresses his desire to retire. Despite the chaos, Zhao Zhen decides to investigate the rumors affecting the stock market but ultimately plans to return only the initial investments to the officials, which frustrates Zhao Shu. He argues that the officials are corrupt and undeserving of compensation, but Zhao Zhen, maintaining his composure, suggests that Zhao Shu lacks evidence to support his claims. The chapter ends with Zhao Shu discovering a list of investments from the officials, realizing that this could serve as evidence of their wrongdoing.Full content
