Chapter 759: Water Disruption and Ambush. [762]

Summary

Pei Xingyan's army departed from Gushuxian, while Zhai Rang dispatched a vanguard of over ten thousand troops south to Runan, carrying the Wagang Army's treasures. Zhai Rang hesitated to join them, feeling the weight of his leadership amidst the army's decline, while Fang Xuan Zao expressed concern over Zhai Hong's influence. Zhai Hong, feeling liberated from his brother's control, plotted to seek refuge with Li Yuan, but faced challenges in crossing Huanshui. As Zhai Hong's troops prepared to escape, they were ambushed by Pei Xingyan's cavalry, leading to a brutal massacre. Zhai Hong and his son Zhai Mohou were killed, but Pei Xingyan, under orders to spare non-combatants, halted the slaughter, ultimately saving over six thousand soldiers and their families. Pei Xingyan then continued his pursuit towards Chuqiu County for a decisive battle against the Wagang Army.
