Chapter 746: The Two Top Scholars [746]
Summary
Wang Ning An confronts Feng Jing about the gunpowder factory explosion, with Feng Jing insisting he is not responsible. Feng Jing reveals he returned to the capital to help the leaderless Qiying Society after Fu Bi was captured. He learns that the alliance list, crucial for power dynamics, might be in the possession of a monk named Fo Yin. Feng Jing discovers an old alliance document showing that two-thirds of military families opposed Zhao Er, but realizes it cannot alone command the world. He decides to leverage it to gain favor with Empress Cao, who is gaining power. Wang Ning An, cautious of the Empress’s ambitions, ultimately refuses to accept the alliance document and instead burns it. Feng Jing is then forcibly sent to the Western Regions, fearing for his future. Wang Ning An contemplates the implications of the Empress's involvement in the chaos, deciding to send military families to the West to quell potential uprisings. The chapter concludes with Zhao Shu, the crown prince, pledging to support his father, while Feng Jing, now free, encounters Song Xiang Gong in Lanzhou, who is promoting safety for gold prospectors.Full content
