Summary

Shi Mu is evaluated by the long-bearded scholar Xie Shi, who is surprised by Shi Mu's five-degree spatial sensing ability. Xie offers Shi Mu two choices: to follow the standard path of an ordinary sorcerer apprentice or to sign a vow contract for personal guidance and more resources, with the condition of never leaving the Black Magic Sect. Shi Mu chooses the first option, valuing his freedom over potential power. He receives a jade pendant, marking his acceptance as a sorcerer apprentice. The gray-robed elder, Sun An, then leads Shi Mu to a chamber containing sorcerer's techniques, where he can select one technique as part of his new status.
