Summary

The county examination, initially without martial arts tests, was changed by Magistrate Jiang Da Dao to include a martial arts examination consisting of weightlifting, running, and archery. This year's exam required students to run 20 miles in half an hour, which led to discontent among candidates. Only about 300 students participated, as many opted out after failing the previous day's tests. The weightlifting event was manageable for most, but the running challenge was extreme. Jiang Da Dao, suspicious of cheating, followed two students from Lu Shan Academy, Li Yan Qing and Yue Fei, who completed the run effortlessly.
