Chapter 718: Parade Turmoil. [723]

Summary

Li Ren Shou, newly appointed governor of Zhao County, returns home after a welcome banquet his son, Li Qing Ming, declined to attend. Although proud of his son's achievements as Deputy Minister of War, Li Ren Shou is initially angered by his son's absence. However, upon discussing the situation, Li Qing Ming reveals his principles against attending factional gatherings, warning his father about the dangers of the Hebei gentry forming factions. This conversation leads Li Ren Shou to realize the implications of recent political maneuvers affecting Hebei scholars. Suddenly, news arrives of thousands of scholars marching to the Purple Micro Palace, protesting perceived injustices against Hebei scholars. The protest escalates, drawing the attention of court officials, including Su Wei and Li Jing, who attempt to address the crowd. Ultimately, the protest dissipates as the scholars are persuaded to return home, with underlying tensions regarding the political landscape remaining unresolved.
