Summary

Pei Zi Yun finds himself in an altered version of Heian-kyo, where he has assumed the identity of Shan Tian Xin Yi, a young master from the Yamada family. He reflects on the historical context of samurai, their evolving status, and his mission to gather information about Izumi Shikibu, the wife of Kitsu Michisada. As he navigates the eerie atmosphere of the city, he and Ichiro Yamada encounter a deserted noodle stall that raises their suspicions. When the lantern extinguishes unexpectedly, they sense something ominous and quickly seek refuge in an inn, feeling the weight of unseen forces around them.
