Summary

In a desperate act during a raid by the Imperial Army, Feng Xiao An, realizing his family's imminent downfall, kills his wife and concubines to spare them from humiliation. He then sets his estate ablaze, ultimately taking his own life with poisoned wine. The soldiers, led by Wang Xuan Ce, extinguish the fire and discover the aftermath of Feng Xiao An's madness. The Feng family faces severe repercussions: adult males are executed, minors exiled, and women sent to brothels. The estate's assets are confiscated, revealing a meager grain reserve of 8,000 shi, far less than expected, leading to further investigations and arrests.
