Summary

Zhang Wei Yang, encouraged by Bo Shi, joins an envoy traveling through harsh conditions to the Wu Heng tribe. The group consists of Han officials, Hui hunters, and a few Wu Heng people, including a noble lad named Ye Li Zhi. As they journey, Zhang forms bonds with the Wu Heng, learning about their customs, including the significance of their guiding dogs, which carry the deceased's belongings back to their ancestors. The Wu Heng face challenges due to losses in battle against the Xiongnu, prompting them to explore alliances with the rising Han Dynasty, which has improved the lives of the Hui. Ye Li Zhi admires the Han's prosperity, contrasting it with his tribe's struggles.
