Summary

Dunhuang, also known as Shazhou, is a desolate city on the western edge of the Western Xia territory, with a population of fewer than five thousand. The Song army, camped in Shazhou, faces dire conditions as they search for the Yutian remnants. Liang Yimai has departed with a large troop, leaving behind rations. Tensions rise as the Song army suspects Western Xia's interference in their mission. Zhao Zong Jing devises a plan to establish a foothold at Puchang Lake, an oasis that offers vital resources. He emphasizes secrecy in their operations while preparing for the journey ahead. Zhao Li expresses joy at the Song Dynasty's commitment to Yutian, while Zhao Zong Jing remains cautious about the challenges they face. As the Song army prepares to leave, Zhao Li seeks to honor his ancestor at Qianfo Cave, accompanied by Wang Ning Xuan. There, they encounter Wei Chi Yan, who reveals the tragic fate of the Yutian people, with many captured or killed by sand bandits. She informs them that the remaining Yutian people are at Pu Chang Hai, reigniting hope for their rescue.
