Chapter 65: Passing the Throne. [682]

Summary

Liu Xiu ascended the throne in Chang'an, appointing Bai Guan while adhering to a pact to deny the Liu clan king titles. He issued a grand amnesty, clearing the names of the practitioners of the Way, previously wronged by the Deceased Emperor. Grand Master Guang Ren, after a century of suppression, reestablished the Taoist sect. Liu Xiu wanted to appoint him as State Master, but Guang Ren declined, fearing attention. Six months later, he announced his succession plan to his disciple, Huo Shan, who reluctantly accepted the title. As Guang Ren stepped down, he reflected on the sect's revival and received a token from Gui Bu Gui, symbolizing their shared history and struggles.
