Chapter 649: The Change of Hands at Tongguan, Adding Insult to Injury. [647]
Summary
Cao Zhang had withdrawn from Tongguan to vie for the throne, while Jia Xu became the commander of Tongguan. Jia Xu spoke to the garrison troops, acknowledging his past actions but stating that they were necessary for survival in the chaotic times. He informed the troops about the Han army's attack on Chang'an and Zhuge Liang's military prowess, which made the soldiers terrified. Jia Xu then offered the troops two choices: surrender to the Shu bandits or continue fighting. Most of the soldiers chose to surrender. Jia Xu then negotiated with Zhuge Liang, offering to burn down the treasury and commit suicide if Zhuge Liang would let him go. Zhuge Liang agreed, and Xing Dao Rong was tasked with carrying out the plan.Full content
