Chapter 647: Rebuilding the Silk Road [647]
Summary
Wang Ning An confronts Liang Yimai and Man Mei regarding the compensation of 5 million guan owed by Xixia to the Song Dynasty. Despite their initial hostility, Wang proposes a compromise involving the reopening of trade routes through Xixia, which would allow both parties to benefit financially. He emphasizes the urgency of the situation, warning that failure to cooperate could lead to war. After some contemplation, Liang Yimai and Man Mei reluctantly agree to Wang's proposal due to pressure from their government. The Great Song sends envoys to negotiate the terms, which include a division of the compensation payments. The Western Xia rulers, initially resistant, eventually see the advantage of allowing trade through their territory. The negotiations take a month, culminating in a treaty that returns 200 captured Iron Hawks to the Song Dynasty. Li Liang Zuo, the Western Xia leader, remains defiant, plotting revenge while nobles from both sides anticipate the economic opportunities that the renewed trade will bring.Full content
